Hey,
So I'm having trouble writing my personal statement. I can say, honestly, that the reason I want to be a doctor is to help people. I can probably say it eloquently and present lots of evidence that I'm telling the truth, but at the end of the day, I worry that every admissions officer's eyes will glaze over at the 4000th story of the little girl with AIDS and how sad and inspiring she was. But I would be telling the truth. Alternatively, I could probably come up with a creative, funny, interesting story about medicine, that would be different from everyone else's, but not really what I feel. (I'm not talking about making up facts, but just presenting myself differently)
Is it better to tell the truth, even if you think you're saying the same old stereotypical "I want to help people" stuff? Or is it better to find something else to talk about, even if it isn't really what makes you passionate about medicine.
