Just state your accomplishments. I think that if they were worthy enough to be in the newspaper, they are impressive enough to stand-alone.

Leave it out of the PS for sure, but if you feel it's important to include, do it in the work/activities description. (although your characters are probably better spent describing what you actually did as opposed to who commended you for it, unless, like someone said, you received an actual award for it)

In the AMCAS activities section, I used one section as honors and awards and used bullet points to mention newspaper/magazine articles I was featured in, along with other awards.
