One of my pet peeves used to be when people got accepted to medical school and then changed their status to "MS 0". Man, it used to bother me so much.

I think I can get over it though. I would like to request that, if you are pre-med and plan to change your status to "MS 0" as soon as you get into medical school (that way the rest of us can know!), I think it is only fair that until you are accepted anywhere, you classify yourself using a negative number system. (EDIT: Apparently needing to clarify, I am being completely facetious. I really don't care.)

If you are making the transition from hSDN to pre-allo in September, you could call yourself "MS -4" -- unless you're planning a gap year. If that's the case, make sure it's "MS -5"

If you are 2 years away from starting medical school in your mind, please classify yourself as "MS -2".

If you are going through the application process currently but have not earned an acceptance yet, please classify yourself as "MS -1".

Then of course, once you get that first e-mail/phone call, "MS 0" is all yours! 🙂

Just a suggestion. I really hope it catches on though..it would really help when reading someone's comments to know just how close they are to the coveted prize.
Eventually, you might even want to date your checks based on the years before/since you planned to start medical school... instead of the conventional BCE/CE method.

If you're bothered this much by 'MS0' I really want to be a fly on the wall when you start third year.

MS-1, MS-2, MS-3... I keep hearing these terms being thrown around, can someone explain what they mean?

Obv not serious. Nobody should do this. I thought the last line would make the joke obvious if nothing else.

I think MS 0 is weird, but I really don't mind it at all.

Aside from the shadowing love triangle thread, I got tired of reading the same stuff on the first page. I think it's that I've come full circle from when I started paying close attention to SDN last year, a few months before application season began. So people are asking about the same topics again.

I'm sorry my attempt at humor was ill-received.

I, too, think it's weird that you're excited. If you're going to say you're MS1, you might as well say you're MS5 in residency. I mean who gives a f*** amirite?

I don't see the humor in him asking about the meaning of an acronym, why not tell him what it means rather than laugh at him?

To answer johnnycage's question, it refers to the year of medical school you're in, like MS1 is first year, MS2 is second year etc. kinda like L1 for law school and PGY1 for residency (post graduate year)

OP, did you delete your signature after your first post in this thread?

Don't think so.

Instead of using negatives, why not use the prefix "pre-". Kind of similar to the BCE/CE method of dating.

Those who haven't been accepted yet would have to call themselves PMS1, PMS2, etc.

You can't be negative if you didn't begin yet. The whole MS-0 **** is dumb anyway.

I've noticed this too over the years. Not much changes around here. Same questions, same answers, same 1-2% of people/trolls who will never ever listen to said answers. Been looking for something to shake things up.

I don't know, dude...some people are pretty bad at math. We're gonna start seeing some weird ass fractions/exponents/imaginary numbers thrown in there and it'll just be even more confusing. 😛

Also, @Agent B is indeed a girly girl.

I'm totally gonna make myself MS -(i/3)^4

Agent B is a boy who likes to pretend to be a girl on the internets

I think it's more frustrating when users change their status to "medical student" before they actually start medical school, mostly because people reading what they post have no way of knowing they're not actually medical students yet. I can understand the eagerness to change statuses, but it's misleading.

I agree sinombre. I'll change mine when I actually start school

There's a Medical Student (Accepted) status option

Agent B is a boy who likes to pretend to be a girl on the internets

Or maybe I'm girl pretending to be boy who mistakenly pretends to be a girl?

Thanks for that. I switched it to MS (Accepted). Hopefully it'll catch on. The MS0 thing annoys me a little too.
