Behavioral science! I need six hours of any behavorial science. Are there any certain courses that you would suggest that help on the MCAT. Or Medical schools like to see?

Thanks in advance.

behavioral sciences arent on the mcat
though knowing some might help you in life overal
behavioral sciences i'd recommend would be:
general psychology- its plan out a great class one can take and very light usually. this course is also a intro to the whole field of psychology. this a recommended class for basically all college students to take.
sociology - also a good class im taking it next semester basically some people see it as a combination of light social psychology and studying. also a good class you can take
anthropology - this class is supposed to be rather tidious

there are alot of other classes that are good for behavioral sciences

I was a psych major/bio minor in undergrad and I took a couple of courses, physiological psychology and abnormal psychology, which were heavily biology based ... and I really enjoyed them. I would recommend something like those. Of course, to get into these you would need to take an Intro. Psych course, which is also a really good as well.

I guess it really depends on your ugrad institution and their course offerings. Classes I took that I loved and think will be useful are Judgment & Decision Making, Medical Decision Making, Perception & the Brain, Biological Bases of Behavior, Alcohol: the Brain, the Individual, and Society. Abnormal Psych is just plain interesting. But, I agree with the above posters, Behavioral Science courses are not going to help you with the MCATs, but can potentially help you as a future physician.

Just wanted to warn that most people find gen psych to be much more difficult than they thought it'd be. Personally, I don't think it is, but I have heard plenty of stories of people getting their a** handed to them by this seemingly harmless class. Definitely an interesting subject, though; just don't expect it to be Basketweaving 101. Personally, I've found most bio & chem courses are quite a bit easier to get a perfect score in than most psych classes. (The latter don't have as clear-cut expectations and so tend to be tougher -- any computer can do chemistry, physics, or o-chem for you but writing well, forming and testing hypotheses, and breaking down or critiquing the methods of an experiment are all things that require substantial amounts of critical thinking and are generally more emphasized in psych courses than your typical BCPM course.)

Learning psychology is not a small endeavor. I think that if you are interested in it, you should start poking around a bit more and feed your thoughts from it. It can teach you a lot about real-life cognition which you can then learn how to apply to your other interests - to your own life.

I'd recommend Medical Anthropology, not because it'll help with the MCAT, but because its a really interesting class.
