I have just had by primary AACOMAS application verified about a week ago and applied to just about half the DO schools in the country. I just realized that some of them, like LECOM,Touro, and Western require behavioral science courses. I had no idea about this. I have taken classes on philosophy, religion, and eastern civilizations but i dont think that really counts. Does anyone know how strict schools are about this requirement or if they will accept me on condition of taking Behavioral Science before I matriculate? Thanks so much!!! very nervous!!😱

I was under the impression that almost every school of medicine requires behavioral sciences. However like any pre-requisite you can for almost every school complete the courses after getting accepted just have them done prior to enrolling ( intro psych + intro sociology are popular and can be done easily in the summer even).

I wish I knew that before I would have def taken those classes. Not every DO school requires Behavioral science and im pretty sure most MD schools dont. I just hope it doesnt effect my chances!!

Most schools will interview and accept you conditionally provided you complete them before matriculating, and I know that LECOM accepts philosophy courses for their behavioral science requirement.

That's a little reassuring thanks! lecom-brandenton is on the top of my list. Just wish I had tried to categorize the philosophy as a behavioral science on my aacomas. Do you know if I could take the courses online (like U phoenix)?

Ask the schools to be for sure. But usually, under a conditional acceptance, they could care less where you take that last required course, as long as there is some form of accreditation.

Should you be accepted, the people in admissions at LECOM will catch it. I thought I was going to have to take an English class, but they ended up counting a speech class in lieu of it for me (The requirement was just magically filled one day when I checked.) They're really on the ball with that stuff.

When you say they will catch it do you mean they will just tell me to take a couple courses before I matriculate or that they will rescind their acceptance?

They'll see your philosophy courses and count them as behavioral science courses if you didn't list them that way in AACOMAs.
