While inserting coursework and selecting the pre-reqs for the certain courses, what should we put for the behavioral sciences? I am confused because most school's pre-reqs require a advanced psych and sociology but PTCAS says to use intro level courses. So any advice to what others have put or know which is correct? For both psych and sociology I have intro and advanced courses, which should I list as Behavioral Sciences I and II?

Thanks!

Good question. I am still confused as to how and if schools really calculate their own prerequisite GPAs.

For the most part, Behavioral Science I should be the Introduction/General Psychology class. (II) should be an upper division psychology course - most schools that require an upper division psychology course usually require either Developmental Psychology or Abnormal Psychology. Check your individual programs. If you are applying to schools that require different (e.g. School 1: Abnormal; School 2: Developmental) upper division psychology courses, you may designate Behavioral Science II more than once (qtr system). Any of those two will work of none is specified. Good luck.

@greco13. Some schools calculate their own GPAs while others will use PTCAS. You will have to ask each program individually. The method of doing so will vary since different schools may use different point allocations for given grades. It can be relatively easy if data is exported into a predesigned GPA calculator on a worksheet like excel (takes like a min pp). However, that statement is just something I would do if tasked with calculating something like GPA.

I put general psychology as my first behavioral science, and then I put developmental psychology as my second behavioral science because I don't think the psychs fit into any other prerequisite category available. I hope that helps.

did the same here. but i took abnormal as well. Can i put that under (II) with developmental

So what I am getting out of this is to list Behavioral Sciences I as intro to psych and behavioral sciences II as an advanced psych (life span, for me).

But what about an advanced siciology course? Or either one for behavioral sciences II would probably be accepted?

To be honest Tom, none of the schools I have applied to or considered required a sociology course. I don't even know where this sociology thing came from. Most schools require either 1 basic psychology course or a combination of 1 basic and 1 upper-level psychology course. What schools are you applying to?

The sociology/humanities requirements I have seen have only been required for those who do not plan on completing a 4-year degree before entering PT school. Most schools do not allow this, however. Those that do, do not usually favor those candidates w/o a 4-year degree.

Everyone, please check your individual school requirements.

@Azimuthal...Jefferson, Temple, Widener I looked at real quick and they have a social/behavioral science pre requisite and sociology is listed as an acceptable course.

I think I am going to go with listing Intro to psych as Behavioral Science I and Psych:Life Span as Behavioral Sciences II.

It is for the PTCAS Pre-Req GPA and if they look at transcript I assume they (the program) will realize I have the class once they see it. Do the program's see what courses you listed under the pre-req gpa for PTCAS?

They do. But they will also see your entire course listings so you should be fine.

I also need a little clarification on the behavioral science. It says to only list one pre-req for each category (behavioral science I and II) but I've taken three psych courses (intro- B, abnormal- B, and sports- A-) and want to use it accordingly to what the program accepts while attaining the best GPA. School 1 will accept intro and abnormal but school 2 will accept intro/abnormal and sports. Should I just submit intro for behavioral I and then abnormal and sports for behavioral II even though it says only list one for each category?

Also sorry this is unrelated to the thread topic but does anyone know, if after your freshmen year (after spring semester) you take a summer session are you still consider a freshmen or are you a sophomore now?

Thanks in advance
