Hey guys, I thought I would post this answer on here since there are usually more people on the pre-vet then vet student forums. I am doing a short presentation on what measures to take if a client has a mare that is rejecting her foal. Here is the question, I would appreciate anyones take on it:
8 year old Arabian mare has just foaled for the first time and won't allow the foal to nurse. What should you tell the owner about this problem in general (possible motivation for the mare's behaviour and liklihood that she will accept the foal)?
What questions do you have and recommendations could you make to ensure the safety of the foal (with regards to injury to the mare).
