Now, is that possible. I think it could be, they're not exactly opposite each other.

Of course there are variations to schizoid personality and we have overt/covert narcissistic personality, but a few friends were talking about this and we can't decide. Can a schizoid feel entitled? Can a narcissitic person not care what others think? Can one personality override the other?

If you watched Flight of the Pheonix, the character Eliot played by Giovanni Ribisi appeared to have narcissistic PD and schizoid PD.

Not all of the DSM signs and symptoms for these disorders "cancel" each other out. Someone could, for example, have narcissistic PD evidenced by a feeling of entitlement, belief that the person is brilliant, etc, but not need the admiration of others.

The person may actually want the admiration of others, but not because they wish to socialize with them. E.g. think of a cold nazi soldier who does not want to have any social relationships with Jews in WWII Germany, but demands that they bow to him when he is in their presence.

Yes, exactly, that's what I thought. I have a bachelor's degree in psychology but decided to mention this in psychiatry forum to get more informed opinions.

I just had a thought, and I don't know if I need to open a new thread for this, but what do you think about speculating about some TV/movie characters' personality disorders?

Travis from Taxi Driver- PPD or Schizotypal
Single White Female and Fatal Attraction- BPD
etc

As far as TV shows, we can consider more character-driven programs, like Will & Grace, Seinfeld, Frasier, etc. Frasier Crane and Dr. House perhaps meet the criteria for NPD.

p.s. I think most people on reality TV are narcissistic anyways. 😉

MOD NOTE: Your thread in the Clinical Psychology forum was closed already because you were fishing for answers for your project. Closing this thread too. -t4c
