Being finished Secondaries - when is early, middle, late?

I figure I'd put it in with poll goodness, just to see what SDN thinks is 'early', 'middle', 'late'.

And when I say 'septemer' I mean month of the mermaid, not september. 😛

It depends on the school. Some schools won't even release their secondaries until mid-late July...so "early" for them would be a bit later than the schools that released secondaries in June or early July.

Well, of course. I meant in average, as in schools that generally do release their secondaries in early July (all schools get your primary released to them starting on June 21st).

There will of course be exceptions either way. Obviously if the school doesn't send out their secondaries until July 26th, you can't be 'early' on July 15th.

I think primaries went out June 25 or 26 this year.

Yea, I've heard this two week timeframe a lot. I think some schools tell you to submit within two weeks, right?

I haven't heard of any schools that say that specifically. However, I know of at least one (Chicago) that mentions that quickly submitting a secondary is a way of showing interest.

You do what you can do. Not everyone is capable of submitting a secondary the day after they receive it. As long as you don't intentionally put it off, you'll be fine. I think quality is more important than getting your app in ASAP.

Yeah, plus if people retake the MCAT in the summer, it's a bit hard to rationalize sending in your secondary right away if they're just gonna hold off until your second score comes in anyway.

I submitted my primary on June 6th and got most of my secondaries at the end of June. I submitted a few before realizing that they wouldn't even look at my app until Aug 10th because that's when the July 8th MCAT scores are released (retook, 1st MCAT in March). Now I'm just taking my time trying to write the best essays possible 🙂

July is early / on time.

August is OK, not great.

September is late. Later than this is really late.

Depends on the school. I received 3 secondaries in late June, 3 in early July, and I'm waiting on about 6 more from schools who have yet to release them. I was hoping to have all my secondaries done by the end of July, but I know at least one of the schools I'm waiting on doesn't even start screening primaries until August.

First - HOLY **** YOU'RE BACK!

Second - agreed

I can't quit you, SDN...

Just doing my part to straighten out pre meds...some really lousy advice on the forums in the summer when most of the folks who have gone through a cycle have moved on...

A lot of truth.

I plan to start submitting by the end of next week (as soon as I get verified) and plan to be done by mid August, so it looks like I'll be on the late side of early or the early side of average by most people's accounts.

Not ideal but I don't think it's going to be horrible?
