I'm kind of lazily on the job hunt, and have talked to a few places that want to know if I'm open to being licensed in multiple states--mainly treatment center-type situations, where some of the work is tele (and some would be in-person in my city of interest). I'm resistant to this for some reason but don't have any good reason--I just feel like it looks shady to be licensed in multiple states? Or would I be open to more liability? Anyone have experience or insight into this? Thank you!

I maintain multiple state licenses so I can change employers as necessary and practice where I like. Many doctors do this, it is common.

Many doctors hold multiple state licenses especially if they do locum work. It isn’t unusual.

Downside is each state has fees, their own laws, CME requirements, and thus more time to keep up with their shenanigans.

A lot of my colleagues, PhD and MD alike may also do some medicolegal work on the side. Many of them of licensed in multiple states.

Have 5 state licenses. Very common and often needed

I narrowed mine down. Simplified life. No interest in every practicing in other places. Saved money, less bureaucracy to worry about.

I know of a locums who received a board action (no lawsuit) in one state due to a medical error. Well they were licensed in like 13 other states, who all subsequently issued their own board actions for the same error, which the doctor now has to list on every licensing application. Nonsense really.
