Okay...so I'm fairly happy with the interviews I've already received...but of course I still have applications that I have yet to hear a decision regarding the possibility of an MD/PhD interview...

To those of you who have already gone through this arduous process...at what point do you simply begin to await "the thin letter"? Some sites indicate that they will continue to decide until March, yet the decisions regarding MD/PhD interviews must surely end before that.

By what date should I simply be content with the interviews I've had and give up the faith on the rest?

Thanks (feel free to PM your experiences with the interview process this late in the game)

I wouldn't give up all hope. I really think it depends on the school. Some programs seem to be more separated from the medical school, while others are more dependent on the medical school's bureaucracy. Since thousands apply to med schools, it could potentially take a long time before the med school people get to your app, process it, and THEN forward it to the MSTP office where THEY can start reviewing your file.

There's always hope!

It's only mid-January. You still got time. No need to mentally throw in the towel at this point. Where I'm at now...I was accepted in mid-April.

It was easy for me. I just called the schools I hadn't heard from about once per month until they told me I was on their "hold for interview" list. At that point, I knew I wasn't gonna get an interview there. All the schools I didn't interview at were upfront with me about my status. Somehow my LORs got lost on the way to CWRU, so I was very glad I kept calling them. I ended up with an interview the day after they got my LORs, but I wouldn't have ever interviewed had I never called. Another applicant this year somehow got their letters lost going to UPenn, and they also should be very glad they kept on the program since UPenn told this person that their file was complete before 🙂

It just so happened that the spring I applied, the Head of the Grad department that I had applied to suddenly up and died of cancer and it took some time for a new head to pick up the pieces. Consequently, I didn't get my acceptance letter until well into May!
:luck:
