We would like to encourage those who use SDN on a regular basis to become Benefactors or Donors. As you may already know, SDN is non-profit, software and hardware expenses are paid for by these types of user donations.

100% of the past-year's donations went towards major upgrades to improve performance and stability (new servers and network equipment, and upgrading server systems). The more Benefactors and Donors we have, the better job we can do at expanding smoothly as the site grows. The new SDN database that was installed on March 4-5 was fully funded by generous guest donations.

Here are the perks of becoming a Donor/Benefactor
- PM inbox capacity increases to 250 messages
- maximum avatar size increases to 150x150 pixels
- increased upload quota
- user picture option enabled in profile
- ability to close your own threads
- Benefactors do not view the banner or text based advertisements!
- Helping out the site that has helped you!

If paid with an e-check, PayPal holds the funds until they clear. Once they clear at PayPal, they send a status update which upgrades the account.

About Donations:

100% of donations always go to hardware and software upgrades.

In 2005 we received just over $4700 in donations. This is a fantastic amount which we really appreciate.

SDN's revenue is spent on bandwidth, hardware, software, IT services and legal fees. There are no paid staff, we all volunteer our time.

All of SDN's revenue comes from member donations, Google advertising and Amazon revenue. In the past SDN did not accept donations. However, because so many students requested a way to donate, we made it an option. Members should not feel that donations are required, SDN's mission is to provide these resources for free.

I think that you must have to donate both amounts separately to get both icons.

I'm still trying to figure out all of the symbols for those with authority (as in what can an advisor do, a mod, a supermod, an admin, etc.).
