  1. Pre-Optometry
Hi guys!

I was wondering who is attending the Opto- Camp at Berkeley this summer? Also, does any one know the first and last day they will provide housing? I don't live in California so I wanted to go sight seeing before or after the camp!

For those who have attended in the past. what is it like? What can I expect? Any tips or advise?

Thanks everyone!!

I went last summer! They provide housing for 2-3 nights and the program ends on I think a Saturday morning - then you can go sightsee on saturday before you fly out.

It was very fun! You spend most of your time in one room listening to various presentations - on optometry in general, admissions, the OAT, interviewing, financial aid, a mock class, etc. And there's a tour of the campus

Thank you so much for your input! I really appreciate it 🙂

I actually was in a hurry and didn't finish. In addition to a tour of berkeley campus (where you go up the campanile bell thing), there's a tour of just the optometry section. There's time for a couple fun excursions each day too (we went and got ice cream sandwiches, visited an apparel store, and climbed up to the big C, all via walking). You stay in dorms provided on the Berkeley campus, and I think each person has one roommate unless there are an odd number of boys/girls. We had 4 current Berkeley Opto students stay with us the whole time, they were the ones who walked us to and from basically everywhere. It was really great asking them questions! Oh and you eat in one of the dining halls which is buffet style and has pretty good food.

I went last year and it was it every thing SunA21 says. It was a wonderful experience to have been invited! I hear that they extended the camp to 5 days? Is this true? I wish that my experience was that long because around day three is when you start feeling comfortable with the other optocampers! The ice cream social was nice and a great chance to meet with professors and other current students.

One thing I really loved was the third year eye exams and taking pictures of our eyes through the slit lamp! We get a pretty great quality pic of our eyes; which is STILL my iPad wallpaper... But as far as sleeping arrangements Heather Ottawa and other coordinators are great in assisting in arrangements for your stay on campus at Berkeley.

Tips; I would say bring a camera and good walking shoes for the hike...money for that really good ice cream place in Downtown Berkeley and your A-game for the social games after the lectures (apples to apples)! You will definitely love your time at UCB.

Thank you for your responses! @RxminusOU950, it has been extended to one week! I'm glad everyone had a great experience. I am so excited to attend! 🙂

Hey,

I'm attending this summer's opto-camp. See you there!!

I'm sure you guys are aware by now, but this year's program is actually 5 days long so you'll have housing from July 11-15.
