Besides tuition, how did you guys narrow down the schools to apply for?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Pre-reqs, locations, OOS interviewing and acceptance rates.

(I know that there will be some people saying "hotness" of the female dental students and I PRAY that they are not serious.)

I'm gonna wait for the new ADEA book to come out but in the mean time I'm just fiddeling with my list. Anyway, once I get the book I plan on first removing all OOS unfriendly schools, then finding which schools would be out of my reach stat wise (Like how ASDOH likes a ridiculous amount of volunteering and such) then just cutting that based on location and price.

I made my list using the ADEA Guide. I made a list starting with my 3 in-state schools (UF, Nova, and LECOM) and then I wrote down every school that had above a 25% OOS acceptance rate. I think I had a list of about 30 schools at that point.

Then, I eliminated the schools that I didn't feel like I was a good fit with (I'm white, so research indicated I didn't have a great shot at Howard or Meharry).

Then I eliminated some of the schools that were close to that 25% OOS cutoff that I didn't have a strong desire to go to (a lot of schools on the west coast).

After all of that, I probably had around 20 schools, and I swapped out some of the schools that I considered to be on the "bottom" of the list with some schools that I would have highly considered with lower OOS acceptance rates that I just considered my "reach schools".

I applied to 20 schools in total, probably because I wasn't overly confident with my 20AA/19TS DAT scores, and I was told to apply broadly. Follow a similar approach and try to see which schools seem to accept people with stats like yours and you should get interviews.
