Basing this off of the best/worst rejection emails:

Let's hear it folks

  • what was the best way that you found out that you were accepted? A personal call from the dean? An email that had specific details about what they liked about your application?
  • what was the worst way you were notified (I know, acceptances are still acceptances, but still I'm curious)?

I'll start it off, my fav was an email that included a paragraph with three or four things the adcom really liked about my app that stood out to them.

edit: "Selecting students who are the best fit for our program and our mission is a very difficult task. Many factors are considered in the admissions process. In reviewing your application, the Admissions Committee was particularly impressed with your outstanding academic performance at X, your community service as Y, and your internship at Z."

When I got the call, the person I was on the phone with was super coy about it, saying they wanted to follow up on my app, and how my interviewers had been at the latest adcom meeting, and on and on. I think I knew on some level that they weren't calling to say, "You're rejected" but my heart rate was at like 220 bpm and I just wanted to shout "GET TO THE POINT!" Still the best day of my life but still.

That would've made my anxiety SKYROCKET. Dang, I wish they'd cut to the chase bc that's rough. Congrats on the A though!!

I hope they do this to me.
"Oh, I'll play your game, you rogue." 😉

imo it doesnt matter. The notification could begin with a 10 minute rant about horrible I am at life as long as the last sentence is "congratulations again on your admission to our class of 2024.

That being said, the phone call i got was top 10 best moments of my life but unfortunately i dont remember it as my full, undivided attention was spent trying to prevent myself from letting out a not-so-masculine squeal of joy before i got off of the phone

University of Florida MD/PhD acceptance phone call was really personal. One of the MD/PhD committee members who interviewed me directly called me, and spent 5 minutes explaining why the program wanted me to be a member of their program, and offering me to come back at any point for a second look and to meet with faculty members I might be interested in working with.
