ok so my lectures in medschool for biochemistry suck bad and i wanted a good book so i could study the subject on my own what is the best in-depth book out there for biochemistry???

I'm currently using Lippencott and The Lange harpers book but the lippencott doesn't seem to be that much in depth its too brief and leaves a lot of other information and the harper book doenn't have like any clinical in it and if it does its too wordy and condusing so I wanted to know how is

Marks' Basic Medical Biochemistry: A Clinical Approach

will using these books be overkill or not becasue they seem to be too much and i might not have time for them but my lectures suck so should I self study them on my own

also what about the BRS biochemistry book is that good with lippencott

My school recommended we use Lippincott. I thought that book was outstanding. It had just enough detail, was really clearly written, and the illustrations were great.

Harpers Biochemistry is pretty decent, I used it to get the big picture. I used Lehninger's in undergrad...its pretty easy to understand.

I actually try to be a book-reader, but biochem was just way too much. I stuck with just using the syllabus. That being said, I did really enjoy flipping through Marks in the time that I did have, because it flows well and has great patient cases with funny names that carry through the book. Great clinical info. If I could have gotten through it, it would have been my choice.

I second the vote for Marks. It's easy to read, the diagrams/pathways make sense, and they put enuogh information in that even if you have never had biochem/chemistry isn't your strongest subject, you don't get lost.
