So for my microbiology major I am required to take an additional English class. These are the two I am considering:

Persuasive Writing: "Intermediate course in the practices of writing to persuade with special emphasis on current issues and audience awareness; includes research-based writing"

or

Personal and Exploratory Writing: "Intermediate course in the practices of personal and exploratory writing; may include personal narrative and observation, autobiography, or extended reflection; special attention to prose style and voice; includes research-based writing."

I was wondering which would help me most for a personal statement?

Persuasive Writing is better. The idea is to persuade medical schools to choose you.

I'd say the 2nd one. A PS should be persuasive but is definitely more of a reflective narrative.

And if, in this class, you get to choose a topic for a piece, I think it'd be great to write your personal statement/motivations for medicine. That way you can get at least one good critical evaluation from the class.

Agree 100%

Second one is better. The personal statement should a good reflection of yourself that shows you'd be a good fit for medical school.

Use the interviews for persuasion

Second one sounds better.

Yeah... disregard that. Wasn't sure why I said that. The second choice is better because it's much better to be reflective in the essay and more persuasive in the interview (as someone earlier mentioned it).

Wow, overwhelming consensus for the option two! Thanks guys! 🙂
