any ideas? i'm leaning toward one of the compaq ipac's with windows platform but i have no ideas about software. any thoughts on this handheld would be appreciated as well.

I would go with whichever platform your fellow students and residents decide to use, just because you'll be able to "share" things with them, including patient info. Our school uses the Palm OS, so it would make no sense to get the Compaq unless I wanted to listen to mp3s while on rounds.

I personally would go for the less expensive, smaller Palm machine because things do tend to walk away and I've found most people really only end up using it for their 5 minute CC or Epocrates...

I like many of the features of the ppc versions. Having said that, they are a very poor choice for medical professionals, in my opinoin. The device itself is fine, but lack of compatibility with the endless number of palm applications out there make it a very poor choice at this point.

There is a yahoo group dedicated to palm Os users in medicine by the way. It may be a useful resource:

Enjoy!
