Just wanted to know, which impression material is best for border molding on custom trays. company and consistency (light,med,heavy)

Also what material do you use after for the impression in the custom tray.

border molding: green stick compound. but i only border mold if necessary. usually with PVS and a good custom tray i can get nice border impression with little deformation. that said, a good medium body PVS should do the trick...

At school, they have us use the green stick compound for border molding and polysulfide for the impression due to it's hydrophillic properties. Patients and students hate it though, it smells like crap, is hard to mix, gets all over the place and takes forever to set. It's like being in pedo, not at all unusual to see a patient puke.

we border mold with medium or hard bodied pvs and take the final impression with light-bodied.

This is one of those things that make you wonder who first thought of trying that? But it works great, doesn't it? Nice full borders without over extension.

Green stick or a heavy body/putty vinylpolysiloxane to border mold works well followed by a wash of lighter body impression material, but use whatever works best in your hands, as is true with everything dental. Medscape has an article comparing the accuracy of both techniques. According to this study, either technique results in the same number of denture adjustments. I've never been a big green stick fan, but that's what I use most of the time. It's what we were taught. I usually use Impregum for impressions/C & B and rubber base for dentures, but I've got the PVS material, Aquasil, because of Invisalign, so I'm going to try it for dentures soon too. Good luck.
