Hello, I was just looking ahead to next year when I'll be a lowly intern. I don't know which journals my program will provide for me, but I figured I'd ask what the residents and attendings out there think are the best journals. I figured Pediatrics, Peds in Review, and (since I like it) Peds infectious Disease.
Anything else?

Peds in Review is a good one to read thru each month if you have time (at least read the cases in the back, if nothing else). Contemporary Peds also has good cases, and usually has a few good articles (though all the advertising is a little obnoxious). Though not a journal, the peds topics on Uptodate are awesome and really helpful--I'm always referencing Uptodate, especially when I'm on call, and I refer med students to various Uptodate topics way more than I recommend journal articles.

I never read Pediatrics when it comes in the mail (it goes right to the recycle bin)--but I do occasionally reference the online version to search for articles (if I have to do a presentation on a specific topic, or find a specific RCT, or can't find the info I'm looking for on Uptodate). Most (all?) peds residency programs pay your AAP membership fee, so you'll get Pediatrics and Peds in Review in the mail, and get free access to the online versions too.

I wouldn't buy any journals as you'll see them around almost everywhere for free. I agree that for clinical questions in which you need info, you'll use Up-to-date. If you want to keep up with the latest new research, the two classics are "Journal of Pediatrics" and "Pediatrics". They have a bit different focus, with J Pediatr being a bit more theoretical (but still clinical) and Pediatrics being more trial outcomes and observations, but both worth glancing through as you have time.

Too pricey for me. I could have gotten tickets from the alumni association for $175 ... but plane tickets were $800 or so. Times two (me and my wife) ... just too much for me.

Enjoy the game, but not too much! Something funny ... I'll be in Ann Arbor on the 8th ... should I wear a Gator's t-shirt?
