This may be a dumb question, but do I need to take Step I in the same place or near the same place I go to medical school? There was a similar thread in 2006, but no real answer was given.
I go to school in California, but my hometown is in Ohio. I need to take Step 1 before clinical rotations start on June 13. I just got my scheduling permit, but the only test center that can accommodate this schedule is about an hour and fifteen minutes away.
Would it be better for me to stay here and study at school/my apartment, then get a hotel the night before the exam, or would anyone recommend flying home to Ohio, living at home with my parents (haven't done that in several years) for a month, and taking it at the test center where I took my MCAT (which is very close and still has open dates).
It might be nice living at home for a month, leaving most all my friends and distractions in California (plus I could get someone to cook for me
). On the other hand, I would probably be reduced to childhood again, not to mention relinquishing my independence in exchange for my old room and desk. Then again that could be a good thing for studying. But would a sudden change in environment be detrimental to studies? Thoughts?
