Hey everyone. I take my DAT on June 15th and I'm worried about RC like I'm sure many others are. I've tried reading the passage quickly first then going to the questions and also going right to the questions. I can't seem to figure out what works best. I got a 20 on topscore test 1, 19 on KBB, but I feel like all I do is scramble for the entire 60 min's. Does anyone have any good advice?

If you feel like you are scrambling, then I would calm down when reading the passages, the point is to memorize everything in the questions before you start reading. Try this:

Read the intro of the paragraph and the conclusion to get a jist of it, dont read thoroughly but read to get jist of it pretty fast. Then look over the questions, if you can answer any questions off bat just by looking at the conclusion and intro do it but if not take note of important keywords you haven't yet encountered and make note of them in your head. These will stay in your head. Read each paragraph one by one including the intro again thoroughly, answer any questions that pertain to that paragraph and then repeat by reading the next paragraph. This should give you a little more organization as well as straightening out your mind while reading.

read the whole passage. read fast. pretend the passage is interesting. answer questions. repeat. you can read the passages and answer the questions in ur given amount of time. ppl are paranoid and think they cant. unless u read like a slug, then u be aight

Yeah, it sounds like you are stressing if you feel scrambled. Time is most likely not going to be EXTREMELY forgiving on this section, but I usually had 5 minutes or so to go back. The main thing is just diagnosing how you best answer the questions. For some people, reading the passage isn't necessary, and they can just find topics based on the question. Some people retain the information very well if they read the passage. I think this is just a section you have to kind of play around with and figure out what's best for you.

But, just for some general advice, if you see the question is a tone/inference question, quickly diagnose if you need to read just a paragraph to answer it, or if quickly skimming the points of the paper would get it across.
