Someone told me that combining Goljan Audio with BRS Path was a great combination for them because it covered all bases and was better than reading and hearing the exact same words. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences with this?

While Goljan's audio follows his book fairly well, there is MUCH more to his book than his audio. I've seen a few of your other posts about this subject, and I think the answer to your question is that you don't need both Goljan and BRS to do well on the path questions. I haven't taken Step 1 yet, but I've read enough on SDN to see that people who never listened to a word Goljan said and used only BRS did extremely well. The opposite is also true.

RR path isn't something that can be breezed through in a few days. If you really want to maximize your path studying, use Goljan's audio and add that to the text of RR path. It seems a little redundant to use both BRS and RR, especially if you're crunched for time. IMO, it's better to know one source well than try and spend your time flipping through both BRS and RR. The benefit of using his audio + his book is that you learn pathophys. I'll also say that if I didn't have his audio, I wouldn't like his book as much. But his audio combined with his book is worth it's weight in gold, IMO.

fully agree

I think its pretty safe to say that if there is any step1-relevant pathology missing from RR path....FA will have it

Very well. I guess highlighters and such are a necessity since there is pretty much no bolded words in RR Path.

before studying for boards I had never used highlighters...ever....and laughed at my friends who made their notes into colorful works of art...

after working w/ RR and FA over the past few months I sunk all the way to using a multi-color scheme w/ these 2 books to not only mark important stuff...but also to make the format user-friendly....and ffs would it kill FA to put some lines b/w all the info in their charts.....

there were way too many important points in both of these sources that can easily get lost among all the info on the pages....it was a pain in the a$$ during my 1st pass through the books but it was worth every second as I went through them for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th time....

As Goljan says, you'd need a paint brush with his notes. It's ALL high yield. Yeah, we need to know it all cold.

But, because micro and pharm can be rough for me, I was tempted in highlighting every drug and bug mentioned in his book. There are quite a few. So, I guess the high-lighter can help.

Did you still need to use BRS physio after using RR path? since goljan supposedly integrates it all really well?

Knowing a specific subject is different than integrating it with other disciplines. Goljan does this integration with pathology but you still need to study topics other than pathology. BTW yes, he is very good instructor but he is not a sorcerer 😉 .
my 2 cents

I think we all know that the only sorcerer that matters is Gandalf! =P

Yeah, I broke out the ruler and pen quite a few times to draw in my own.

I demolished my FA with whiteout. There is a lot of text that is just so DUH you don't need to read it in a book to remember it. I'm talkin the real basic stuff, unnecessary or poor-quality mnemonics, and figure acknowledgements.

Just white unnecessary stuff out and now you've got yourself a) marginally higher yield, and b) room to add the notes you think are important.

Heh that's hilarious. I'd probably pass out from fumes if I did that though.
