I am a second year, so a few jewels on this subject:
1. Fly into FLL, not MIA. It is a rough drive from Miami to Fort Lauderdale if you hit it at the wrong time.
2. The school has a travel office that has arranged discounts with several local hotels. I don't know how this compares to the rates from travelocity or other sites, but here is the link:
http://www.nova.edu/cwis/bsv/travel/hotels.html
3. To the person who was driving from the beach: It will probably be cheaper to rent a car for a day than to take a taxi to and from the beach area. This is probably a $30.00 (or more like $40) taxi ride each way...WITHOUT traffic. Beyond that, if you truely are considering this school, it is definately nice to be able to drive around and get to know the area. (It may save you a second trip for apartment hunting later on).
4. Before you rent hotels (especially if you are coming down alone), contact the school. There are plenty of M1 and M2 students (me for one), who are happy to have ppl stay with them the night before the interview and get them to school on time and to the right place the day of the interview.
Also, given the choice, I would stay with an M2. We have been around longer, know a LOT more about how the system runs, and will be able to answer questions a lot more accurately than almost any M1s. If you have questions about finding a student to stay with, PM me. I can get that info for you or help you out myself. (Note: depending on the flight times, we are sometimes able to pick you up from the airport as well).
SERIOUSLY consider staying with a student, the ability to ask someone questions when you are relaxed, not that nervous, and not afraid of who is listening is invaluable.
