Found this link from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on an older post and wanted to share it out with everyone: Dentists, General
As you move through the interview process and start to imagine where you want to attend dental school and eventually practice dentistry, make sure you are taking the time to research the best places to practice (highest mean wage and lowest saturation of dentists). There are lots of reasons to choose where you want to practice (proximity to friends & family, quality of life, etc) but your ability to repay your loans and buy a private practice (if that is your goal) will largely depend on your wage and the amount of competition in your area of practice.
Cities like New York, SF, LA, Chicago, Dallas, Washington DC, Phoenix, Boston, & Atlanta are all oversaturated dental markets and have some of the lowest salaries in the country and some of the highest costs of living.
If you want to know the wages for the states/counties you are considering, then the link above has maps that you can scroll over and get country-specific information.
Mean Wage by State
Worst Places to Practice (Oversaturated, Lower Salaries, and Higher Cost of Living)
Best Cities to Practice (Lower Saturation and Higher Salaries)
Best Rural Areas to Practice (Lower Saturation, Higher Salaries, and Low Cost of Living)
