Which major from ASUs pre-med list should I choose? http://prehealth.asu.edu/degreeoptions

I personally want to do Biochemistry (Medicinal Chem) because it looks most interesting and well prepares you for the MCAT. I know I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for choosing a major based on MCAT prep but whatever. Thanks!

Art history, or english.

Even if you don't get hate for choosing a major based on MCAT prep, you won't get much out of it either.

Realistic advice? Find something that you'll enjoy studying while taking the prereq's.

MCAT prep major? Triple major in biology, chemistry, and physics. No joke.

Add in Philosophy or some kind of Sociology/broad humanities major and you're set.

Seriously though, it's not worth planning your college career around a test that you specialize your studying for anyhow. Do whatever is interesting to you.

If you're coming out of high school and you've got the grades on your APs just go to the UK 5-year undergraduate medicine programs, very well-respected internationally.

5-years in the UK ~$200,000 in tuition + living expenses. 8-years in the US ~$200,00 - 250,000 tuition + living expenses - 3 years of income as a doctor.

Oh and did I mention there is no such thing as the MCAT needed for the UK schools?

I rather stay in the US. It's a personal choice. But thanks for the help, I understand you are trying to help🙂

Biochem imo but do what you love most of all. Molecular biology would also be good. These two would prepare you best for the MCAT by far but not every school offers these majors.

Thanks, I am actually leaning most toward Biochemistry because it is a mixture of 2 of my favorite subjects! I also like how it well prepares one for the MCAT, cause in the end, its about getting a well score on it and eventually getting into med school right?

Or just learn how to read. 😛 It's not like one needs background knowledge of material for VR, you just have to be able to read actively and think critically. Natural for some people, learnable for everyone else. A non-science major for VR skills? That's gotta be the lowest yield idea in the book.

You absolutely don't need to major in any sort of science to own the MCAT. In fact, majoring in a subject tested on the MCAT may put you at a disadvantage in the sense that people who take high-level courses beyond the scope of the MCAT tend to think too deep into the questions, end up following the wrong lead, and get the question wrong.

If you like Biochemistry, definitely go for it. If you're doing it because you think it might get you a high MCAT score, you're very mistaken... Hope this helps and good luck 🙂

Well, as long as we're covering all the bases.. 😉
