Hello Everyone, I know spanish to a decent degree where I can get a gist of the convo or what people are talking about but miss some details. I took spanish 1 and spanish 2 in HS and Spanish 1 in college. I just want to know if there is a good website or organized program where I can significantly enhance my spanish speaking abilities? I would like to be fluent before I start Med school next fall.
Thanks

The bolded above is not realistic unless you are going to move to a Spanish-speaking country for the remaining time and be fully immersed.

Otherwise, you can probably get to a very proficient level through consistent and dedicated practice. Duolingo is a good free app; Rosetta Stone is another (non-free) option. Listening to some Spanish-language podcasts and/or movies or shows is also a good way to improve listening skills and brush-up on vocab passively. (My fave Spanish podcast is Radio Ambulante; it’s pretty good.) Reading spanish is also another good way to passively practice/continue learning vocab and phrases, which helps when later speaking. (A good news app in Spanish is BBC Mundo, if interested.)

But the quickest way to get close to fluent is practicing in real conversations, though, not apps.

Thank you, I meant not like 100% fluent but enough to be able to understand pts symptoms and history of present illness and be able to tell them the results of studies. Goal to be fluent is after med school but for now even being able to ask questions and understand the patients would be a blessing. Thank you for your tips, really appreciate the input you provided

Some schools and hospitals offer Spanish for medical professionals so check where you are now for a class starting in January.

I mentioned this on another thread but many cities have free conversational groups that meet to talk in Spanish - find through meetup. There also may be free/cheap ungraded/no-credit Spanish through the local community college or community center. There isn't any real substitute for using the language.

If you have a long commute, you could find audible type Spanish lessons on podcast or DVD.

UCDavis has this Coursera course here that looks like it might work if you want a structured class.

I doubt you'll be fluent by then but combine all these with a Duolingo habit you should make progress.
