Hi everyone,

Finding a comprehensive list of QUALITY PsyD programs is challenging if not impossible to find because most rankings are done based on quality and quantity of research from colleges/universities and this is not the focus of most PsyD programs. Thus, one must rely on the experience of others.

Can anyone offer their knowledge of the BEST PsyD programs nationwide?

I have researched high and low for some type of rankings for PsyD programs and so far I have not been able to find much. Like you mentioned, generally the university based programs are more highly regarded when compared to professional schools. These university programs have smaller class sizes and seem to attract better faculty. Also many of these university programs have excellent practicum sites and higher internship matching (APA programs) statistics. In another post you asked about 3 schools, I have to agree with Sanman that the Indiana program is the best program of the ones you asked about. I live in Chicago and have looked at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. It is expensive. They do have some great faculty and good practicum sites, but the classes are large and their retention is not as good as Indiana. Here are some other programs for you to look at: George Washington University, Pepperdine, Rutgers, Midwestern University (newer program offered at The Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine). These are just a few university based programs that are highly regarded.

EL CAPeeeTAN,

Thanks so much for your feedback. You had mentioned that where you get your MBA from is important. Here is what I am potentially thinking. I ideally want to get the PsyD and practice; however, consulting would just be another added bonus, professionally and especially financially. Widener University, which I have heard is a pretty decent PsyD training school, offers a joint PsyD/MBA program. This is especially appealing because it does not mean that I have to go to school for 2 extra years for the MBA, as I am still able to complete the coursework for both programs in 4 years, excluding APA internship. Total = 5 years for the PsyD/MBA. Anyone have any thoughts on this joint program or the program in general?

I realize that a Harvard or Yale MBA would be ideal; however, if I can get both degrees completed at the same at the same place, I would definitely save myself 2 added years of study (post PsyD) and a lot of money. Would my joint degree then have a good amount of firepower behind it? Even if the MBA is from a smaller private university? Any thoughts?

Boston seems to be a mecca for education and on top of having many MBA opportunities, there is the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. It is a small school and the price tag is up there, but as far as PsyD programs, it has a really good reputation. It requires field placements all 4 years, so your networking out in the real world is fairly extensive by the time you graduate. They also offer a certificate program in business and organizational consulting. Check out the website: www.mspp.edu
