i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which question bank is the "best" or the one they prefer as long as its not usmleworld. i have foudn that usmleworld is extremely unrepresentative of the questions i took during an nbme adminsitered shelf and the online nbme exams and am discouraged by how low i score on it and how much minutiae and facts ive never seen before that it tests. does anyone have any experience with a question bank that they think is more "representative" of the actual usmle other than taking the NBME self-assessments? thanks.

There is nothing more representative than USMLEWORLD. By not using it, you are doing yourself A TREMENDOUS disservice.

If USMLE World was a man, I would go gay for it.

I've been through it about 1.5x, and I'm going to use the other ones now too. But I'm not going to stop using UWorld.

My goal is as many questions as humanly possible.

im still gonna use it, i just want to supplement it with something that the ?s are a little bit less intense. its just frustrating using it solely since some of the ?s seem so ridiculous or like they are purposely trying to screw you up

Rx, they ask basic one or two step questons about first aid. Kaplan tends to give you trivia questions.

Also if you're actually premed I think we can crown you king of gunners. 🙂

i was when i joined in 2007 haha but i keep trying to change it and it keeps asking me to enter answers to my secret questions and i dont feel like it 😛

hey man use usmlerx i just switched to it from kaplan as my secondary q bank (with world being primary). its got a lot of questions and i feel it does ask you third order style questions but the leap from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 isn't that difficult. it does so more than kaplan which is like someone said more trivia based. i'd go with usmlerx for sure bro. gluck.

- an education specialist lady at our school told me that students in the past have told her kaplan has helped with some difficult questions on the boards before. who knows. its not like i pay attention anyways to the "out there questions" on kaplan so i dont think it'd help me.

and i think usmlerx makes a lot of good connections within first aid itself and adds some outside stuff even when its not in first aid and it basically tells you the page to annotate it on. i really really like it.

USMLE World. Period. If you seriously believe that this QBank is not representative of today's USMLE exam, go to the USMLE Step 1 experiences thread and read each and every post there.

I just took the test and vote for UWorld (I used Kaplan and UWorld myself). It isn't necessarily the exact same question/answer that will show up but instead something in the explanation will definitely be seen. The questions on the exam aren't usually the 3rd step difficulty like UWorld but instead 1st or 2nd step difficulty. I got SO MANY (~25%) that were direct repeats from UWorld explanations.

i hope you guys realize the OP is asking for a bank to use before starting UW

Rx is good for straight up First Aid knowledge, which is all great stuff to know inside and out. If you read a system with the class then doing these questions would be great, as long as you're okay with getting stuff wrong for not knowing the difference between stuff you haven't learned about yet.
