What are the best programs that have adult neurology IMG residents? Just checking to see the viability of top-tier programs for foreign graduates (BTW: I am a US-IMG)...

medsRus, no offense but you started the same exact topic several months back: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=576985

Do the top-names in neurology accept US-citizen IMGs? I'm talking about JHU, Mayo, UCLA, MGH, CCF, etc. Roughly, how many programs should be enough to secure a position somewhere good? Thanks! 🙂

obviously medsRus wanted a person to do the job for him...and you just bit his bait. As a usIMG i have received invites from top places.....most programs do have residents bios in their page..but someone is just too lazy to research them.

Don't be such a p**sy! Show me the current residents and their medical schools for UCLA, Mayo, Case Western, USC, UCSF, UCSD, UCI, U Cin., UT-Houston?

If you spend some time searching the programs you are interested you will find your answer. If not call the programs and ask them. No need to start a brand new thread with the same exact question. 🙄

No offense, tranzformer, but we recently went through another match year. Moreover, a very small minority of programs have updated their resident lists and indicate their medical school alma matter).

So, which top programs have you IMGs match into this year? Thanks! 😀

Have you looked at the current residents list at the programs you are interested in? I know quite a few of the "top programs" have a resident list with the information that you are requesting, but obviously many have not updated their incoming PGY2 class. You can still get an idea of which programs take IMG by checking out their websites. Once you come up with a list of programs you can't find info for, I'm sure someone on here can help you.

Off-topic: if you find a list of the current residents at Mayo-Rochester let me know. I have been looking all over their website and it doesn't seem to exist.

So, yet I did see some lists up for a few programs. But, I couldn't find anything for the following:

UCLA Medical Center Program
University of California (Irvine) Program
University of California (Davis) Health System Program
University of California (San Diego) Program
University of California (San Francisco) Program
Stanford University Program
Los Angeles County-Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Program
University of Southern California/LAC+USC Medical Center Program

Somebody likes Cali! 😉

I do, but I really want to know if it is reasonable to get a position in one of their programs since there are extra steps involved. Having knowledge of their current residents would be ideal. Thanks!

there is one img at ucla, but he did extensive research at ucla prior to matching. there is also one img at uc irvine. the only ca program that regularly accepts imgs is loma linda, from my limited experience.

UC san diego also have had imgs in the past. I cancel my interview-so i know they do look at at usimg.
Regardless Medruss, what you shoiuld do is call each program and ask for yourself......then come back here and post it.

You should apply to all programs that you can, send them emails and ask for their criteria. Get interviews, then decide what to do.

Stop thinking about IMG and US Citizens. Do your home work.

Rank your list based on where you want to go.

Always think that there are so many people out there dying to just get matched in one neuro program and there are very limited spot for Neurology, around 400 (PGY2), So just you need to get interviews, impress programs and rank them.

Research, letter of recommendations and good credentials are always a plus.

It is ok to do some background research and maybe assess your chances. More importantly you should work on your application - get good letters, do some research, go to conferences and meet people. You can get to any place with good credentials, regardless of your AMG/IMG status.

This is good advice. Also, realize that to get into California residencies is harder for anyone (IMG or FMG or US grad) than a comparable quality residency in many other states. Just know that if you apply to a lot of California programs, you need to apply to a lot of others too as a backup.
