Is anyone doing a residency, or talked to a resident, where they have really nice work hours and call schedule. Say something like 50-55 hours a week with q5 or so call.

If anyone has, please post the name of the institution.

Thank you.

Yeah it ain't surgery. I would consider all Anesthesiology residencies to be cush in terms of call and hours. At the end of a "long" 65 hour week you can just look back and think, coulda been 100 (Oh cmon, you don't believe they're really doing 80 do ya).

...I've heard didactics, M & M, tumor board, etc...are not part of the 80 hr. work-week...any truth to this?

Yes...the 80 hours ONLY involves the time you spend with direct patient care. Therefore, if a program wants to they can have you charting until the wee hours of the morning. Or slaving away in the books somehow.

However, I haven't heard of many anesthesia programs who do this back-handed kinda thing. But if you're interviewing, it would be wise to ask the residents what their REAL hours are. When do they actually go home.
