Hi to all studying for the dreaded DAT!

I just took the DAT, and would like to share how I studied because I did well, and this was my third time taking the test.

My overall scores were:
Bio - 26
Orgo - 21
Chem - 21
TS - 22
PAT - 21
Reading 22
QR - 14 🙁
AA - 21

For the sciences, I used the DAT Destroyer and firmly believe that is the only study tool that will ensure the highest score. I went from a 15 in Chem to a 21 because I knew the problems in the Destroyer and how to do each step of every one. If you study for Chem with the Destroyer, you will find the Chem section very easy. The same goes for the Orgo section - study the Destroyer Orgo - know the "Road Maps" and read the explanations in the back of the book and the Orgo section will be a breeze. I received a 19 on Orgo the second time I took the test, and brought my score up 2 points with the Destroyer. As for the Bio, definitely utilize the destroyer and take a note of the topics that are repeated i.e. the kidney, evolution, 5 Kingdoms, etc. You may want to delve in to these topics a little further outside of the Destroyer, but if you feel you have limited time, then just keep going over the Destroyer Bio and things will become more and more familiar.

I did absolutely AWFUL on Quantitative Reasoning and could kick myself because it was my fault. I received a 17 on the section last time and found it to be fair, but this time my section was SO hard. I purchased the Math Destroyer and glanced over a few of the tests but thought that the questions in the Math Destroyer were too lengthy. Well, I was SO WRONG. A lot of the questions on my QR I found in the Math Destroyer afterwards verbatim. If I only spent more time in that book, I could have easily ended up improving my scores instead of going down. I guess the level of difficulty varies from DAT to DAT, but you want to make sure you are as prepared as possible.

I purchased Crack Dat Pat for the PAT, did all 10 tests, and found the actual test to be very similar. I was scoring 18-21s on the practices tests, and got a 21. Crack Dat Pat has very hard hole punching which makes the actual test's very easy. I also found the cube counting and angle ranking much easier on the actual test than on Crack Dat Pat.

I purchased Crack Dat Reading for the Reading section and did 5 practice tests and went in to the test feeling confident. Everyone has their own tactics for the Reading sections, so just go with the way that makes you feel most comfortable and gives you the most time. I found myself clicking 4 or 5 random answers at the end of the section because I ran out of time.

I hope this helps! Study hard! And buy Dat Destroyer! I attribute all of my success to that book!

What do you mean by the 'roadmaps' for the organic chemistry of DAT. And did you use the one DAT Destroyer for all the Natural Sciences section?

Around page 100ish of DAT destroyer, or the answer section of OChem if the page system is different now, are 5-6 pages of "Roadmaps" that the author put in the book. It is basically every reaction you will need to know for OChem. Beware though, you should still need to understand it and there are some things in there that is not explained in the roadmaps that may bite you in the ass if you don't know it. For example in the roadmaps it shows Toluene (Benzene with methyl) + Chromic acid > benzoic acid. This is correct. However, you should know that Chromic acid will turn ANY alkane regardless of length whether it's a methyl group or a hexane and will turn it into benzoic acid. So it will cleave off all those carbons to that one carbon and make it into a carboxylic acid. There are a few of those small details that you should know that are not explicitly said in the roadmaps that you should watch out for.

Thanks for clarifying. Would you say if I study all the mechanisms in the roadmap in depth then I should be fine for the organic chemistry section? Or should I study additional materials?

Solid scores man sorry to hear about the math part that can be frustrating damn that is a crazy bio score man congrats im sure they will over look you math score with such great other scores

To the above poster......the roadmaps are a great study tool but i wouldn't rely on them for teaching u everything i think the reason their put in the back by like problem 100 is so u have an understanding of the rxn's before using the roadmaps to know them for sure.......use kaplan and destroyer and do all the problems u shud be fine good luck.

wow we have almost identical scores. I'm in the same boat with QR, but I'm sure we'll be fine!

Do people in general agree that the DAT destroyer is a good selection for QR and Natural Sciences? I am looking for a book to start getting into and this is one I'm considering for those sections. Any recommendations for PAT and Reading?

congrats. Awesome scores ( well except math🙁 )
what did you use to study for reading? for sciences and math i'm using destroyer as well as other books but for reading i'm a bit confused to what's the best approach.
thanks
