What specialty do you guys thinks suits me best. I am lookin for a nice work to life balance meaning for leisure activities like lifting and family time. As of now I'm interested in Orthopedic, but an unaware of the lifestyle, and an IM subspecialty like Allergy and Immunology where I've heard has a derm like lifestyle, but am not interested in derm.

Premature. Worry about it during clerkships, and go into them with an open mind. I came into med school wanting to do IM primary care, then thought neonatology, then urology, then gen surgery, and am now applying to residency in OBGYN as we speak.

It's WAY too early to tell, unless you're one of those rare people dead-set on neurosurgery or CT surgery.

Dude, check this thread! The OP got some good replies there - and the topic is pretty similar.

Oh, wait, you are the OP from that thread - and now you're just asking the same thing [reworded]...

You should probably do neurosurgery since you're obviously very intelligent.

Any surgical specialty will suit your needs giving you ample amounts of free time, especially during residency.

Have you taken a personality test? You can find a good myer briggs test by searching on here.....for me, it helped confirm my interests while helping me understand why I wouldn't do as well in other fields. Also, you need to shadow! Schedule some shadowing experience in the various fields you find interesting and ask lots of questions. Finally, everyone is right that you will likely change your mind during MS3-4....so relax and enjoy the process.

It is waaaaaay too early to actually try and decide a specialty for you. It is harmless to research each specialty, but you will never know for sure until you go through clerkships and rotations.

You do know that in order to land an ortho residency, you'll have to work your butt off in med school. For allergy, due to the paucity of fellowship spots, you're going to have to work really hard and kiss a lot of butt in your med/peds residency. A better alternative is to do the least amount of work necessary and go into psych or PM&R

PM&R is hard to get into, as is Derm and Optho.
Psych is probably the best bang for your buck since it's relatively not as competitive as other specialties. Also, EM has shift work and you could technically work "part time" if you wanted (assuming the hospital you work at lets their docs do this).

But as everyone has said in this thread and the thousands of threads before this one, it's too early to tell. You're choosing the dessert before even ordering your meal.

Are you related to the guy that was asking about IA for his "friend" in multiple threads? Rolling, was it?

Anyway, there are too many possibilities before you to make a choice now. You never know how you'd perform or enjoy a certain area until you get into it later in med school. I agree with the poster who said try shadowing to at least get some exposure to other fields.
