Taking Part 1 in january and was wondering what people thought were the most helpful? Review books or the dental decks? Which book first aid for nbde or board busters or something else? Are there more than one brand of dental decks? If so what are they and which are preferred? Thanks for any input just starting to try and get my stuff togerther and get organized.

If your basic sciences are solid you should be able to take part I with minimal preparation, such as skim the front of the dental decks one time. Some at my school did exactly this and passed. If you want more than a pass then take a pretest such as kaplan and determine weak areas. Study until you get better than the scores you want on another pretest.

My general rule of thumb is to go through "First Aid for the NBDE" (a study/review book), and then go through the Dental Decks (there is only one brand, but be sure to get the NBDE I, not NBDE II decks). Also, there are released tests published by ASDA, I thought they were very helpful to get an idea of the types of questions and judge my readiness.

Good luck!

PS, are you sure you want to take it Pass/Fail vs. Scored? Does your school give you the option to take it sooner?
