Hi I am currently in the Kaplan course studying for the DAT. I have heard from many people that Kaplan is okay for studying but not the best or greatest for studying the sections
Could you please tell me what book or books I should look at to better prepare especially with respect to the PAT section and even Chemistry, Biology, and Orgo
Thanks

also is acethedat really great for the PAT section

If you want the best i would say to go with destroyer for the sciences and get cliffs AP biology also to supplement the destroyer. For the PAT I would get Crack the PAT and to just get the feel of a 4 gour test i would suggest either topscore or achiever. However achiever is way more difficult than the actual DAT and just shoots your confidence. Their reading is way to easy. I would say maybe to go top score. For math just get any type of Math practice that you can find. Destroyer is good as well as any math problem that you can find anywhere.

I only used Kaplan to prepare for the DAT and for the most part that was fine. However, as people have mentioned in other discussions, you really need something to supplement the biology. If you study the bio they give you, you will do well on their practice tests, but it really isn't enough for the actual DAT. Unfortunately I can't recommend any particular materials since I only used Kaplan. I also think the PAT problems are easier on Kaplan's tests then the real one, so it would be wise to look at additional questions so you aren't shocked when something more complex shows up on the DAT. In terms of chem and orgo, Kaplan worked well for me. I found the orgo problems to actually be easier on the real thing than some of Kaplan's practice test, gen chem was about the same.

Yes the way to go is definitely with destroyer. Destroyer has hundreds of questions geared perfectly for the Dat. Also, the answers explained for the choices are very clear and encompasses even more material. Get destroyer!

I think Kaplan is very good all around, but is weak in biology and is too easy for the PAT. I really think kaplan covers the material well enouh for both the chemistry and organic chemistry sections. So, to add to your kaplan studying, I would get EITHER cliff's AP biology or Schaum's Outline of Biology to get a better review for that section. I would also get EITHER Topscore DAT or DAT Achiever for some really good full length computer based practice tests to get a more accurate feel for what the exam is really like. And if you struggle with the PAT section, I would get Crack DAT PAT. DAT Destroyer is also a good tool to help you review the science sections that might be worth investing in as well. Good luck.

Cliff's AP Biology
Schaum's Outline of Biology
Topscore DAT
DAT Achiever
Crack DAT PAT
DAT Destroyer
