What time of the day do you guys usually exercise? Like going for a jog or getting on the treadmill, when's the best time is a busy pharmacy student/pharmacist schedule??

I tend to get tired after I jog, and I thought exercise gets you psyched and fresh....or maybe cause I get on the treadmill at 10 or 11 PM!!

What do you guys think? Exercise gets you for fresh, energy and ready for work or studying, but I get tired and hit the bed right after!

I'm trying to get into the habit of going for a 10-20 minute jog right after I wake up (jump start the metabolism), and doing some push-ups and sit ups right before going to sleep.

When the weather gets better, I'll start practicing my sword fighting and martial arts.

Depends on your own circadian rhythm, figure out the time that's best for you.

I don't find mornings that hard, I find late afternoon to be brutal for alertness - so therefore I try to workout around 3-5 pm.

so you actually feel better and energetic after you exercise?

i tried jogging in the afternoon too, around 12 or 1pm, but i still get tired and thus take a nap.

I just play full court basketball. Because its winter and I have asthma, I haven't been able to exercise strenuously for like 4 months. I just shoot around and can't get a game on due to lack of other people, anyway. Probably a good thing with my lungs hating me. Oh well. When I move here in a month or so, I'm getting one of these.

Well, depending on when you exercise right.

I find it's good to exercise during a time that you're typically tired. I.e. at 4pm in the afternoon I don't get anything done mentally, so it's a good time to go for a run or lift weights as those things are mental vacations really. Then, after supper you feel more refreshed and alert... so yeah.

If I were to exercise when I was naturally productive then I'd feel tired afterwards. This is just n=1 though.

How do you find a couple puffs of ventolin prior to exercise?

Gotta try to keep at it, the more you exercise the better your control long term.

I run daily just prior to dusk. I enjoy the cool breeze and golden evening sun.

How about Advair 500/50 and Combivent....does nothing to prevent exercise induced asthma in the cold. It doesn't matter how much in shape I am. It's like 50 degrees right now, so its ok....but when it gets below like 35, no way. Cold Air + me = asthma attack. I can taste the blood in my mouth after 2 minutes of running. In the summer, I'm fine though.

Maybe I should move to Arizona or something.

I like running in the mornings. It seems like it wakes me up, rather than make me want to take a nap, and I feel ready for the day, but that's just me. You need to be motivated enough to get yourself out of bed and actually run that early, though; it's not for everyone.

I just got off the treadmill around noon after running for 50 minutes and burning 550 calories. I feel alert and energetic. After I wake up in the morning, I feel lazy but around noon, I'm ready to run.

I used to do that a few months ago until my legs started cramping up, compartment syndrome, my thighs and chest started chafing, and my feet starts hurting. Definitely not alert and energetic after lol. I like running in the noon too. The sun isnt as bad and the temperature is usually a little bit warmer/cooler depending on the season.

The air quality in phoenix pretty much sucks, if you move here and don't have allergies... you will. Probably will be worse for you asthma.

We do have one dave and busters and one game works, though.

To me, the best time to exercise is when it fits into your schedule and is most productive for you.

For example, our class gets out 3:30. By the time we get home, it's too early to eat dinner, but too late to go to Barns and Nobel without getting hungry in couple of hours. So I hit the gym and study on treadmill or elliptical. An hour or so later, I'm done with both work out and 1 lecture worth of material. Go home, shower/cook/eat to cool off and be refreshed, then you are ready to hit Barns and study until 11. It's a very efficient and productive routine.

I walk with my bf in the evenings between 7 and 9:30pm. I wouldn't dare walk by myself, unless I was to carry like a lady that I know, so that's the time that fits both of our schedules, for the most part. I like to walk earlier rather than later, but a good 2 or 3 mile walk every day is a good fit. It takes about 45 minutes to walk that distance, and it includes a few stop lights, stop signs, and crossing streets.

This is where we like to walk to and around (as does everyone else):

ETA: Walking during the day is a no-no. My skin and hair would get too dirty and oily, which means that I would have to shower twice a day instead of every morning.

i do it whenever I am willing to do it. sometimes right after work, sometimes before, sometimes right before bed. So imo thats the best time...whenever you are willing to do it.

If you can work out in the morning without eating your body will be in lipolysis so you can burn more fat from your work out (assuming your not trying to bulk up)

I always exercise in the afternoon around 5. I've been doing Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred and her two newer exercise dvds. They're great! I always work up a sweat and feel awesome afterwards.

A student's schedule can be so sporadic/hectic that it is sometimes easier to exercise whenever you can find time, i.e. fit it in whenever you can. How are you guys able to build in a regular workout time into a schedule?

Unless it's finals week, I make it a point not to skip my workouts. I won't study immediately after classes are over anyway, so might as well blow off some steam. Trust me, once you get the hang of it, your body will want to exercise at the usual time. I know it sounds funny, but that's how I am.

Thanks for reminding me. 🙂

I like some lipolysis. 🙂 I used to do a 1,200-1,300 calorie/day diet plus occasional exercise, and there were times that I could feel the 'internal combustion'. It's difficult to write down and calculate out every single thing that you put into your mouth, but it works.
This time, I'm switching it up by cutting way back a couple of days a week plus exercising daily. It's working so far, but I have a long way to go before I can get to where I would like to be. The hunger pangs are becoming more tolerable, and I only experience them significantly twice a week instead of every day like the 1,200-1,300 calorie diet. 🙂

I was probably meant to be a plump lady, but I fight nonetheless. 😉

ETA: Experiencing some burning of the fat right now. I have increased thirst, respiration, and hunger pangs, because I walked 4 miles before breakfast this morning, worked on my feet for 6 hours, ate sparingly throughout the day, and stopped eating around 6pm, which was about 8 hours ago. Oh the joy of watching my waistline. 😛
Thankfully hard work pays off, because I felt better today than I have in weeks. 🙂

I shift my sleeping habits back.
Usually, especially during vacation periods, I will aim to sleep around 1030PM, but awake and go to the gym/run at 6AM, followed by a huge breakfast.
This way my metabolism is boosted immensely for the remainder of the day through both a 5KM run, and a complete breakfast with coffee.
When I began working in the pharmacy, I began realizing that I made no errors (labelling, dispensing) if I started the day off that way, whereas my mind was lagged if I hadn't; even worse if I had gone drinking the night before.

9AM is the best time for me. Weekends I go in much later and I find that my workouts just aren't the same (maybe hormone levels are different in the morning, who knows?).

It's also a good time for me because I eat at 7:30 so I have food in me, and I can have something else after my workout with still 3 hours before lunch (yes, I'm still trying to bulk up...hopefully the little gut I seem to be getting will be taken care of July or so).
