Hi I have residency graduationg creeping up and feeling a little worried about finding a job. I know I could find any old job, but I'm hoping to find an inpatient job. I'm looking to stay within southern california. Not seeing much on linkedin, indeed, etc.

Are there specific websites you might use? Should I reach out to a bunch of recruiters? Any help at all would be great as I feel quite hapless going into this job search process.

One recommendation if you haven't tried it: look at any places of interest (hospitals, clinics, wherever) and see what psychiatrists they have on staff. If you recognize having worked with any of them in the past, reach out directly to them. In my experience this accomplishes two things. If the place is malignant, a person who knows and trusts me is much more likely to be honest about that and I can know to discreetly stop my inquiry there (this has happened for one system I looked into, and I am very thankful my colleague gave me a heads up). If the job looks promising, your colleague can do direct introductions and often fast track you into speaking with the right people. For one system I reached out to their online recruitment system and didn't hear anything back. I later realized I had worked with one of their high-up clinical directors in another system. I reached out to that person directly, and within days was meeting everyone in the system and was in talks about potentially coming on board to start up a clinic in my area of subspecialty interest.

If people view you as a nice and competent person to work with, they will often kick the system into gear to recruit you. This may even mean creating a role for you when none was posted.
