Hi all,

I'm from CA and interviewing at NYMC one day, and then Jefferson Medical College the next. What is the best way to get from NYMC to Philly?

THANKS SO MUCH!

i would say take metronorth to NYC, then either amtrak or a bus (bolt bus is my fave, but there's also megabus, greyhound, and others) to philly. PM me if you want more specific into. (i live in NYC and travel the eastern seabord via bus really often!)

amtrak to 30th street station in Philly, after that its easy to navigate in center city

i have been living in philly in 10 years so if u have questions i can answer

i like the bolt bus to 30th from penn station. it basically starts at the same place and ends at the same place and would save you around $40

chinatown and greyhound would take you closest to jefferson

greyhound is actually cheaper than the chinatown bus now if you buy fares online (you have to buy pretty early though i think) and you can catch that from port authority. im not sure if the chinatown bus still goes from penn station or just chinatown now (used to be both back in the day).

bolt bus is probably the best out of them all

china town bus.

ohhhhh helllllllllllllllllllllllll no....Chinatown Bus his too "hoodrich"

The last thing you need is to depend on is some ghetto form of public transportation. Yes, it is cheap...but you get what you pay for. No need to deal with unscheduled stops in random places so the cough cough...Triads 😱...cough cough can take care of some business.

I personally have never taken Bolt Bus from Penn Station; however, I have heard that it is much more dependable than the Chinatown Bus. Take Amtrak if you want a little extra comfort and do not mind paying for it (DO NOT PAY FOR THE ACELA...read: waste of $$$$$).

While I was living in Philly last year and interviewing, I would alternate btwn NJ Transit/SEPTA and Amtrak when traveling to and from NYC.

NJ Transit is cheaper than Amtrak, but it stops much more frequently.

just take amtrak. it's so much easier for an out of towner than all of these buses and NJ transit ideas. Sure it runs late some times, but the ride will be quick, easy and painless in comparison to a cheap bus ride.

downtown philly is tiny in comparison to NYC so you should be fine and comfortable to get around over to jeff once your in philly.

the subway station is more or less attached if you need it at 30th st.

agreed

and if $$ is definitely not an issue just take a taxi from 30th st.

hmmmm...for some reason I miss Killadelphia now that I've left

I know you just really miss your favorite student - ME!!! lol

And I second a HELL NO to the Chinatown bus. Never been on it, but I've heard numerous horror stories...

you could actually rent a car and easily drive this. but i'd go with previously suggested

Metro North to one of the cheap buses (Bolt Bus, Mega Bus, Chinatown bus) is probably best and will put you closest to Jeff.

I have taken the Chinatown bus probably 20 times in my time going to school in Philly and while it is very cheap (20 dollars round trip) it has had its really sketchy moments. Thanksgiving break during my sophomore year of college, it broke down half way to NYC and had to wait for an hour for another bus to take the riders to their destination. There was also a pervert on the bus touching/sniffing people's feet one time but he was kicked off the bus after people became aware:laugh:. Sometimes they don't clean the bus as well as you would like and the back of the bus regularly smells like pee. You are taking more of a chance with that bus but it is usually on time while with the Bolt Bus I have had some time issues. One piece of advice though, if you use Bolt or Mega buy the ticket as soon as possible for the best rate and to hold the seat.
