Hey guys,

I have taken couple of NBMEs online and score have improved but not significantly enough. For past 1st two NBME's i have been "putting" missed questions in the following categories:
1. Couldn't integrate
2. Did not know.
3. Lack of time/random guess
4. Faulty recall/couldn't remember
5. Careless mistake (over thinking, changing answer)

Is there anything i am missing? Or is there a different way for me to be approaching "review"? Or any other tips/suggestions/advice/pearls........will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Well, I've read in several posts you should focus on your weak areas; i.e. if you did poorly on renal (as was my case) study it again, and then see in the next nbme if you improved. I'm taking my next NBME tomorrow so I hope this method works

Well. I miss like 5 questions per system. Not sure if that qualifies as a weakness.

just use the graphs and start by studying the lowest bar, or the widest one

Good idea. Thanks.

Also, i have found my weakness which is: that i am so worried about being perfect , answering every question correct, that i am letting few of the tricky ones screw with my head and causing me to miss alot more than i should. I am too afraid to let few question trick me that i am letting it screw it up for the whole test. sounds funny.

well you better get rid of that redsoxsucks. there are tons of tricky questions on step 1. I wouldn't worry about the performance graphs that much tbh. Just focus on why you are getting the question wrong. if it really is lack of knowledge then go brush up on it.

You are absolutely right about getting rid of that. Its insane how it is/was causing me to under perform because on Uworld timed random blocks i am average a 67%. Yes, its not spectacular but its pretty good.

67% is pretty good. whatever you are feeling now on tricky questions may be amplified many times during test day. I just skipped those type of questions and went back to it after I was done. having 25 minutes to do 3-5 hard questions made me a lot less nervous
