Beth Israel Hospital Closure (NYC)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Saw the headline, was wondering the same thing.

Per direct knowledge of the situation it seems as if there will be no changes to any training programs for 2 years. The email the residents and fellows received said that they will be placed in one of mt sinai's other hospitals whenever he closure is nearing completion.

bad luck for the residents already in the program.

Sounds like it's going to impact residents at Mt Sinai programs too with some potential overcrowding and bringing new residents of varying quality into established programs.

Well apart from Mt. Sinai proper, the other Mt. Sinai programs are of varying quality to begin with, and I don't think they'll be bringing the displaced residents into the main campus program for sure. The Beth Israel residents might actually bring up the quality of the other programs.

Well then ask them how it's shaking out.

gutonc, I find it really troubling how you respond to people who post on this forum. You are very stand-offish and hostile with your questioning, and I can't imagine why you would respond to this post the way you did. Someone comes here to ask a very legitimate and important question that could not only affect him, but could affect his classmates, colleagues, and friends as well. You then proceed to assume that his question only has legitimacy if he is an MS4 who has matched to BID, as I gather from the hostile tone of your question. I feel that not only as a mod of this forum, but also as a respected attending physician that you should really pause to think about the antagonistic tone of your questioning. Whether or not the OP is an MS4 who matched to BID is irrelevant. Your reasoning for asking whether they matched there: illogical. The OP was put off by your accusation, and other people in this post were wondering the same thing. I was curious about their question after reading the post. Is this not what this forum is all about? We should be here to answer questions without being hostile, and to foster discussion without putting people off.

Beth Israel in New York is not the same as BID (Beth Israel Deaconess) in Boston. The former is a community program recently affiliated with Mt Sinai and the latter is a competitive University program affiliated with Harvard University.

Regarding the rest of your post - is easy just to ignore someone you think is making unproductive comments and it's generally a waste of time to call them out the way you did. Your post just serves as more positive reinforcement.

Is there anyone who interviewed there with news on what the program is planning to do in the next few years?
