I had this crazy experience and thought I would share... I was reading Iserson's chapter about sample interview questions including the one: If there was a fire in your home, what 3 items would you grab first? Well less than an hour later, I learned the true answer to that question - My boiler room went up in flames!!! Fortunately it did not spread past there but it was quite the interesting evening standing outside in the 40 degree rain for a couple of hours.

So if you want to know a *real* answer to the question: a warm coat, my car keys and my cell phone!

Now that would make an interesting interview conversation 🙂 definitely an ice breaker of sorts.

Glad everything was ok though.

hey, glad you're safe. i always wonder about that topic myself.
i almost want to buy one of those fire-resistant safes for important documents and really valuable family pictures.

I have been reading through iserson's too and although its complete, I think its making me more nervous of the possible questions...
like- what three people would you want to have over for dinner - from past, presant, future?

What kitchen appliance would you want to be?
😱

One important thing to remember about the interview questions is that you do not want to just have a pat answer for everything. That would look (and sound) strange and phony. There is nothing wrong with just taking a little bit of time to answer the question. It shows that you are thoughtful and that you're real...you are not just there playing up for the interview. That would bother me if an applicant had all these answers down like they were answering the way I wanted them to.

PD: So, if given a choice, what kitchen appliance would you be?

You: Hmmmm, kitchen appliance. That's an interesting question! Actually, since I'm a fourth year medical student in the middle of interview season, my idea of a kitchen appliance is a computer and <www.pizzahut.com>.
