What are some of the big money maker peds specialties?
i am familiar with adults, not with pedes--does it correspond accordingly?
surgical subs, cardiac, gi??

Unlike medicine specialists, I've heard most pediatric specialists make about the same or only a little more than general peds. That said Peds GI and Cards probably do the best. Maybe also Neonatologists if I had to guess. I've heard endocrine, rheum, and specialties like that make less than general peds. Add on the fact that you have to live in a town large enough to need a pediatric specialist which greatly limits your choices when deciding where to live the rest of your life. Surgery specialties are a whole other story but I've heard they're pretty competitive.

In general, pediatric specialists are tied to/connected with a large academic center which has the effect of decreasing salary. The possibility of tenure is great, but though some exist, the number of private practice pediatric specialists is WAY less than that of adults (who are paid more)....thus the salary difference...
