Hey all,

I was curious to see what people's opinions were on reading Big Robbins Path book cover to cover. Our pathology class doesn't really seem to come close to covering the detail big Robbins goes into but more on the level of depth as the BRS Path book (I wish the same could be said about Micro class though). Since the test are pretty straight foward I have not really been reading anything besides notes and BRS path. If I take this route the whole year will I be hurting when it comes to Step 1 for not having really looked at Big Robbins much? Any opinions on this would be great.

Only read through Big Robbins if you have a personal interest in the information. There is more info crammed into that monster than you'll EVER need to know for any medical board exam.

But, if you really want to read a text to be better prepared for path on the Step 1, just use Robbin's Basic Pathology. It's an easy read and is relatively concise (compared to other texts out there). Also, definitely keep reading through BRS Path too, which is a goldmine for Step 1 path

on the one hand, trying to remember (or even understand) Big RObbins from cover to cover is impractical and a waset of time. what i do is i look at the section i wanna cover and then read the part where it seems important (and which is also covered in BRS) and then just skim over the parts where it has alot of bulleted points where you know it's pretty much BS information. doing so makes me understand and thus memorize the important information better when i go over BRS afterwards.

reading BRS then RObbins doesn't seem too helpful for me.

Focus on BRS Path and just use Robbins for pictures/charts/diagrams. Skip the text.

I read BRS path and baby robbins (pocket book) along with my class notes. I use big robbins for charts/diagrams/pictures that are emphasized in baby robbins.

Way too much info in that beast for the USMLE. Use BRS or First Aid. No matter what you do you will have too much material to study so dont burden yourself with a text book. Stick to the review books.
