I am giving a talk at the upcoming SLEEP 2008 annual meeting on "incorporating behavioral sleep medicine services into a medical practice" (by medical, I mean by a physician not by a psychologist). I am an internist/psychiatrist/sleep specialist, but under most insurance plans bill as an internist, using the 780.52 code for insomnia. I was wondering if some psychiatrists out there can share their billing experiences billing for the treatment of insomnia, especially primary insomnia (307.42) in the absence of any psych disorders. Are there any insurance companies/mental health carve outs that deny coverage for insomnia treatment (pharmacological and/or behavioral)?? thanks Michael Rack
