How do you guys feel about "binder edition" textbooks?

While I like the idea of being able to carry around only the chapters I need, I worry that it will wear out quickly, ripping along the binder holes.

I also doubt it will remain in good enough condition to sell at the end of the semester.

The only thing I've had like this was a photo atlas for biology lab. It held up surprisingly well.

I think they are crap (I had these bastardizations for bio and gen chem).
The spin is that they say it is "cheaper" for the student; nevertheless, the price was the same was very similar to other options.

Also accidentally ripping out pages was annoying.

I detest them. My physics textbooks are like that. In theory, it's nice that you can carry only part of them. But in reality, I don't take them to school, so that's rather pointless. The paper is rather thin and flipping pages in the binder is always making me feel that I'll tear them out. So in short - big 👎thumbdown

Step 1: Buy binder version
Step 2: Find rapid-action looseleaf feeding scanner
Step 3: Put pdf of textbook on your laptop
Step 4: Use Acrobat to recognize text on your pdfs
Step 5: Sell binder version

You now have a completely searchable (by windows search) textbook on your laptop
