Hi everyone. I just had two quick questions:

1. What was the last subject that was touched on in your Gen Bio 1. Basically what is the subject matter that breaks Gen Bio1 and Gen Bio 2?

2. Same thing for chemistry. Is there a certain topic most classes stopped on in Gen Chem 1?

I'm just wondering because I am trying to become familiar with some of the subject matter in Biology and Chemistry for the upcoming fall semester. I was pretty good in each during high school, but decided to take Anatomy and Physiology Junior and Senior year. Also, I know every class probably didn't stop at the same point, but any help is appreciated! 👍😀

I'm sure it will vary from institution to institution, but if I dig deep in my gen chem memory, I think we stopped at gases and gas laws for GC1 and picked back up again with phases and phase changes fo GC2. I think GC2 covers rxn rates, equilibria, solutions, basic thermodynamics, solubility, acid/base chemistry, and electrochem.

As for bio, I really don't know. At my school they are just barely integrating gen bio 1 and 2 into the curriculum. When I took it, it was still Intro to Zoology and Intro. to Botany. Sorry.

Thank you! Yea I know every different college/university would be different, but just getting a general idea of where it stops is extremely helpful!

Anyone else remember where they stopped in between BIO 1 and BIO 2?

I was on quarters, and for bio each quarter was divided in half (so six separate parts, for those having trouble with the fractions). In fall quarter, we covered genetics and taxonomy (zoology).

You should see if you can't find yourself a syllabus for the class. A lot of these huge pre-med reqs have website space (maybe through the department) and you might be able to find last year's syllabus there.

Thanks, but not so large of a school, and an even smaller, less elaborate website. But thank you for all the help!

For me, BIO I was respiration, photosynthesis, the cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis, etc. BIO II was basically a survey of the phyla.
