Hello there
I have a question about bio prerequisite courses for dental school.
Usually it is 8 semester hrs including lab .

Does that mean
If i took genetics , my lab should match genetics lab ?
Our school doesnt have cell bio lab so I took developmental lab instead ... Now i am not sure if that was a good idea🙁
Any advice / insight would be helpful and appreicated !!!!!!!!!!

I am pretty sure that dental schools require 8 semester credits of Principles of Biology plus lab. Genetics is often required as different prerequisite.

my school principles of bio didn't have lab with it. I guess if i take two upper level bio lab would satisfy the lab requirement???

That is wired... I have no answer for it. I suggest you call the schools that you are interested in to ask them this question.

General biology is the biology requirement.

I have a question of my own that is somewhat related, but to answer OP's question I do believe it is the gen Bio 1 and 2 (or full year course) with lab that is required. I'm not entirely sure if I had seen this for an American or Canadian school but I remember seeing a school with an "additional biology" category from which they also required x amount of hours and they listed a bunch of subjects that would satisfy this.

I would like to ask if the lab requirement is for a weekly or biweekly (once every 2 weeks) 3 hour lab. In my first year I had gen chem 1 and 2, although gen chem 1 did not have a lab. Instead, gen chem 2 had a weekly 3hr lab. In some of my current science courses I have a biweekly (once every 2 weeks) 3 hr lab.

I dont think weekly or biweekly matters as long as u have credit hours
Our school also didnt have lab for chem 1 n 2 but had chem lab that was 2 credits so that satisfied the prerequisite. Hope this helps !
Called around couple dental schools . It is indeed gen bio but lab didnt have to match exactly as long as ihad the two lab credit hrs .

I was in a similar situation while planning my prerequisites. I contacted schools and it varied. Some said it had to be general bio, others said it was ok if I somehow managed to get 8 hours of upper levels without general bio.

So ask the schools. (My guess is that you'd be ok, but ask.)

Even though I had jumped into a couple upper level bios without gen bio, I ended up deciding to just go back and take general bio anyway to be done with it and review for the DAT.
