Bio Reqs

He guys,
I had a question about the bio recs. I know that the standard is one year of bio with lab, but does it matter what kind of bio classes you take? I've taken one intro bio class w/ lab which is mainly molecular, with no evolutionor ecology stuff. Do i need to take another intro evolution and ecology class? Also do the class and the lab have to match?

Intro to Biology II will usually cover ecology, classification, etc. At least, thats the way it was at my school. YMMV

well intro bio II is notoriously boring at my school, so I wanted to take something more intersting. is that ok?

I'm almost positive that all dental schools require Intro/General Biology I and II. There is no way of getting around that. Sorry.

I do feel your pain though. My General Bio II Prof was an entomologist!! Lets just say I learned ALOT about insects...

I actually disagree with Critterbug, and I don't think it matters what type of Bio classes you take, as long as they are classified as bio!

Of course, one general one would be nice, but after that you can have free reign! Take Genetics, or Immunology, or Histology -- it really doesn't matter as long as it is classified as "Bio" and you can get lab credits also.

I only took one semester of general Bio, and then I took several other upper-division Bio classes.

Schools don't care what Bio it is, as long as it IS bio!

Now that I think about it, you are right Gavin. I just always assumed General Biology was a pre-req for upper level Bio classes. But, if you can get into an upper level Bio class w/o Gen Bio II, then I would do it. However, I was a Bio major so I was required to take both Gen Bio's, so it never crossed my mind.

On a side note, I am currently studying for the DAT and much of the information we covered in Gen Bio II will be on the DAT like ecology, classification, invertebrate biology, plant biology, etc.
