If you aren't naturally talented in physics (like me) your mark is directly proportional to the amount of effort you put into the class. Despite how dull the subject matter is I tread through every page in the chapters we study highlighting, making notes, working out examples, etc. until I fully understand the material. Physics is a lot about learning one or two concepts a chapter, and then applying them in about 10 different ways.
Do as many example problems as you can, and don't proceed to the next until you understand the one prior to it. That's the best advice I can give for doing good in physics, and it has worked so far for me (I'm 1/3 into physics II).
Good luck, and I hope you get everything under control.
