I searched other threads on this topic and the debates aren't very conclusive, so it would be great if anyone can clarify this for me, from experience or otherwise.

Due to AP credit, I couldn't take lower div bio (wouldn't get credit for it) except for one class, which I took. To satisfy the year of bio, I'm planning to take biochem and biochem lab in addition to genetics.
At my school, there are many divisions in the biology department, but all are still listed as biology. So biochemistry is under the biology/biochemistry section and the class title begins with BI (as do all other bio classes).

Would this fulfill the biology requirement? Has anyone used biochem lab for the biology lab prereq?

Thanks

According to the AMCAS manual, Biochem is chem, not bio. As far as the pre-req is concerned, it is probably quite variable what schools will consider as a substitute for the general bio pre-req. I'd suggest taking another definitive bio course just to keep your options open. It won't hurt you to take one extra bio class over the course of your college career. Physio is a great option and pays off big when the MCAT comes around. Neurobio is also very cool.

At my school a person could use Biochem as a biology credit if they wanted to..However, our Biochem class does not have a lab to go along with it, but it is a 4 hour course.
